DULL, BUT ESSENTIAL INFORMATION TO UNDERSTAND THE FOLLOWING BLOG POST
My name is Melissa Gelman. My British alter ego is Mel, at least that’s what they call me here. I grew up in New Jersey (also known as ‘Jur-zee’), but now live in Boston pursuing a degree in advertising — because disappointing my doctor parents is just too damn easy. I’m here, in London, continuing my studies and interning at WTF.
ACTUAL - MAYBE INTERESTING - BLOG POST
Unlike the typical existential college student constantly questioning, yet perpetually slothful, I always had a clear vision of my future. At five I was going to be a ballerina, practicing pirouettes until I was dizzy. At ten, a fashion designer, cutting up clothes and sewing them back together. Now, a copywriter, joining every possible advertising club on campus. Alright, so maybe my tenacious life plan changes every few years, but at least I have some sort of direction.
My direction has yet again shifted as I crossed the pond to London for my life-changing, eye-opening, insert another over-dramatic phrase study abroad experience. For the Nth time, I ask myself “WTF am I doing?”
Interning at WTF Creative has given me some insight on this colossal question. So far I have learned these to be the requirements of my potential profession. Singing out loud in the office should not only be allowed, but expected. The bathroom should not be an arm’s length away from the workspace — it should be out the door and around the corner. And most imperative, creativity must be at the epicentre of my career. I thrive (yes I said it, thrive) on creativity.
So maybe I’m still not entirely sure where I fit in, but I am annoyingly optimistic that I will figure it out and — get ready for it — have fun on the way.
