It’s time for a cheers—it’s Friday, and I survived my second week! Even in a short two weeks, it doesn’t take much to notice a thing or two about the WTF atmosphere…
A CREATIVE ENVIRONMENT
There are three important things that keep the creativity flowing in the office: humour, music and food. My very first task at the office was to create a two-hour Spotify playlist of my favourite music—specifically for them to judge my music taste. My feedback was that it ‘wasn’t bad’ with a ‘few bangers’ and while my playlist hasn’t been played again, I will say they have played good music since. Between the banter and the music, there is never a quiet, or dull, moment in the office. There was one time when Mike made everyone try his combination of Twix and cheese and onion crisps (I’m a fan) and another afternoon there was an argument over egg and chips (which has still not been forgotten).
With every brief is a new opportunity for learning about a company or brand, and research on these companies, brands and their competitors makes for quick learning. Once immersed in the world of a company or brand, the design work begins. My Creative Suite skills are not even close to the design gurus in the office, but I’ve already had the opportunity to work more with the programs. My ease with Photoshop has increased in just a few days of working on mood boards.
While the differences in humour, music, taste, spelling, transport (and the list goes on) exist, it is apparent that in many ways creativity translates across the pond. Passion for design, colour and progress is just as important here at WTF as it has been in my experiences at home. I look forward to spending more time in an environment that inspires laughter, singing out loud, never skipping lunch and I suppose occasionally some creativity.
Cheers to another week, and cheers to creativity
